5 Upcoming Technologies in 2019

What makes you excited when a new year rolls around? Your Resolutions? But that only lasts for the first 3 months of the year. New Avengers Movie? Uh–uh that excitement will only last for first 4 or 5 months. A new season of GOT? Please don’t it would probably disappoint you….
The thing that makes me eager for a New Year and possibly every day of it are Tech Events, and the new breakthroughs Tech Giants and Startup are achieving. So you might ask there are no Tech Events and breakthroughs happening daily. And I would say you are wrong. Here I will be sharing 5 Upcoming Technologies which will probably be coming before the year ends!!!
Folding Screens
5th Generation Cellular Network Technology
Self Driving Cars
Blockchain
Augmented Reality Headsets
Folding Screens
Some of you after reading all the build up and reading the heading would be like I don’t care about Screens that could be folded. But before clicking that back button of your browser just hear me out. And hang in there tight.
Here I am not talking about some prototype or some “over-hyped” piece of technology that never comes out, AirPower. Also, I am not saying screens that Samsung Uses for its edge these screens can be folded in half, right through the middle!!
Companies use O-LED screens for there folding screen tech, just because it is flexible and have excellent colors and dynamic range. And the quality of screen matters when you are trying to sell expensive devices for which the major interaction is with its screen.
Well talking about consumer, some mass production devices that are available to buy and you can probably get your hands-on in few months include:
Samsung Galaxy Fold
Nubia Alpha
Huawei Mate X
Lenovo Thinkpad X1
Samsung Galaxy Fold
Samsung Galaxy Fold is the first ever mass production folding smartphone that is usable. I am not going to go into all the mess about Royole FlexPai and its terrible and rushed design choices by Royole here.
Samsung Galaxy Fold was recalled by Samsung after reviewers got their devices because of the screen being too delicate but now according to Samsung they have fixed the issues and will relaunch the device anytime soon.
Nubia Alpha
Nubia Alpha is the first ever consumer smartwatch which is selling in China. Although it screens doesn’t fold in half but still, it has a pretty cool implementation of the folding display.
Huawei Mate X
Huawei Mate X is a smartphone by you guessed it, Huawei!!. The phone sports a foldable display which bends over outwards unlike Samsung’s implementation. But the recent news with Huawei being banned by Google may hinder its development and launch.
Lenovo Thinkpad X1
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 is a laptop/tablet prototype which folds in like a book. Running Windows 10, this can be the most innovative laptop, launching later this year.
5th Generation Cellular Network Technology
Ahh man, I am such a nerd, I wanted to say 5G. But you know saying 5th Generation Cellular Network sounds much cooler, in my opinion anyways. OK so much about names and all let’s start with listing some technologies behind 5th Gen Networks.
Higher Frequency (>24GHz)
Massive MIMO
Beamforming
NOMA (Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access)
Small Cell
Higher Frequency
With Higher Frequency comes the Higher data transfer speeds, which in theory and I really mean IN THEORY can reach 10Gbps. But real life speeds would be way lesser than that. Just imagine 10Gbps🤤.
But as you expected every coin has two sides. The drawback of such a high frequency is that the range of the 5G is much less. These waves can only travel so far (around 100 meters).
Massive MIMO
Coming to the next technology Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output or Massive MIMO. I will be honest here I don’t completely understand what the hell is this. It’s kinda like a Wi-Fi router but on a much bigger scale.
You can visit here if you need more information regarding Massive MIMO.
Beamforming
Let’s jump to Beamforming, and it truly has such a cool name. And no it is nothing related to Death Star. Beamforming directs radio waves to a target. Beamforming provides better cell connectivity and improved signal quality. Remember I told you about the degraded range of higher frequency? This is one of the ways to counter that.
NOMA
NOMA or Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access is a technology that can allocate multiple users on the same frequency at the same time and uses different Power Levels to differentiate between users. As you know if you can serve multiple users at the same time you can easily decrease the congestion on a network vastly, which is the case in the 5G network.
To learn more about Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access visit here.
Small Cell
Now the last part of this 5G puzzle is Small Cell. To put Small Cell simply, they are Low-Powered Cellular Access Nodes. They are like Wi-Fi extenders in your home, which obviously increases the short range of High Frequencies of 5G. Remember?
will add the other 3 soon …….. Enjoy!!
